Mr Rao was the Chair of the Top Orthopaedic Examination both Nationally and Internationally. He helps run the Singapore, Hong Kong and African Examinations. He has been given the honour of being the Elected the President of the Chester and North Wales Medical Society. Mr Rao is an Honorary Lecturer for the Universities of Chester and  Liverpool 
Mr Rao began his medical training at the University of St Andrews, graduating with Honours in Bachelor of Science, before completing his surgical education at the University of Manchester (Victoria University).
He undertook specialist Orthopaedic Surgery training on the Cambridge Programme at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, gaining further experience at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. His international training includes a prestigious Orthopaedic Fellowship in Colorado, USA, followed by a global Travelling Fellowship with placements in Australia and China, where he expanded his expertise in advanced joint preservation and reconstruction techniques.

Mr Rao specialises in the diagnosis and surgical management of hip and knee conditions, including arthritis, sports injuries, cartilage damage, ligament injuries, and complex joint problems. His practice includes both primary and revision joint replacement surgery, as well as minimally invasive and arthroscopic procedures.

Mr Janardhan Rao

Mr Rao undertook the majority of his training in Cambridge at Addenbrooke's Hospital. He has had the experience of working in many teaching hospitals, and was fortunate enough to work with and be trained by the senior orthopaedic surgeons of the time. Mr Rao passed his specialist fellowship examination in trauma and orthopaedics in 2001, before completing a fellowship in Colorado, America. He gained further international experience on a travelling fellowship, including Australia and China.

Mr Rao has always aimed to be the best orthopaedic surgeon, that he possibly can be. He feels that good communication is very important. He is committed to high quality elective surgery, including the care of the patients before, during and after surgery. He has vast experience in performing modern hip replacement surgery. Mr Rao performs cemented, as well as un-cemented hip replacements. His particular strengths include large bearing (big ball) ceramic on highly crosslinked poly total hip replacements.

Mr Janardhan Rao uses the latest specialist equipment to perform modern knee replacements. He is happy to discuss the options of Unicompartmental and Patellofemoral knee replacements, where only the worn part of the knee is replaced. Knee arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), allowing for early mobilisation and quick return to function, is another area of his expertise.

Mr Rao runs an active and busy practice, which deals with complex fractures and trauma patients. He offers an excellent service, for those wishing to get back to high sporting levels. He has experience in cartilage and ligament surgery. He is keen to collaborate with many professionals deliver a multidisciplinary approach to total patient care. Mr Rao was delighted to return to Cheshire, where he originally went to primary school. He has practice privileges at the Countess of Chester Hospital, as well as the Grosvenor Nuffield Hospital Chester.
